VEC Links-Star Senior High School
In Ghana, there is a lottery system where children get awarded a place for the last two years of secondary school. Philip Litski started Star Senior High School for the young people whose names did not come through the lottery to do their leaving cert. Philip started the school in a shed. Star Senior High School is a newly established school which is housed in temporary premises.
Philip Litski the Director/Headmaster of the school has bought five-acres of land for permanent structures however haven’t started building yet. There are eight permanent teachers with fifteen part time teachers. The majority of the students come from deprived rural communities because of space being so limited, many students who apply to the school are turned down.
Buncrana Youthreach has been in contact with Philip Litski the principal from the Star Senior High School in Ghana. The students that we intend to make contact with are as follows:
- Rebecca Kpoh
- Saratu Ibrahim
- Tabita Tamakloe
- Delali Dogbe
- Eric Gayome
Since beginning the Inishowen Development Education Project before the summer Youthreach have undertook a new level 4 Understanding Interculturalism module. As part of this, the development project group in our centre had to create an informational poster exploring the Irish culture. This poster alongside personal letters and a sketchbook of activities undertaken in the centre will be sent to our contact in Ghana.
