Cyber Bridges Built in Carndonagh CS!
Tuesday, 19th October 2010 marked a new start in our Cyber Bridges venture as Patsy Toland introduced this year's group - Class 3A - to the Cyber Bridges concept. We have also secured an association with our partner school,
Chu Van An National High School, Hanoi, Vietnam. The idea is simple...it's a cultural adventure! Our new group of pupils will shortly set about making contact with pupils in Chu Van An to discuss matters of cultural interest. The project is open ended, though there are always the big issues to address...food and music! It quite likely that many of our pupils know very little about Vietnam. That's what makes the project so fascinating.
Welcome to Cyber Bridges CCS!

Update - 15th November 2010
As of 15th November, we have been in regular email contact with Nhan, a teacher in Chu Van An High School, Hanoi, Viet Nam. And despite the time difference, there's hope that we'll soon have the opportunity to meet face-to-face by means of video-conferencing. Nhan is sending some books on Vietnamese culture to CCS, and we will be returning the favour.
Nahn has also emailed us a fantastic set of PowerPoint presentations documenting her school and the pupils involved in the CB initiative. We have some high standards to live up to!
On 25th November, the 'Inishowen Interschools Day' will be hosted in Carndonagh Community School. Among the many activities on the day will be lunch!...but no ordinary lunch, as the school canteen staff will be asked to prepare
some Vietnamese dishes for those in attendance. Class 3A will be CCS's representatives at the event, and a number of them will be presenting a slideshow introducing our Cyber Bridges association with Chu Van An High School. They also have one or two stereotypes to bust! Interschools Day promises to be a bit of fun, but also a proper education for pupils and staff.
Update - 19th November 2010
Preparations for DE Interschool Day (25th November) continued on Friday 19th with the visit of artist, Kirstin McLaughlin to CCS. Kirstin held her Art Workshop in the school library and assisted Third Year pupils in designing and making posters to be displayed at the Interschool event.
In a nutshell, the concept behind the artwork is "Many Nations, One Donegal". While making their posters, the pupils were encouraged to consider the idea of cultural diversity in the locality.
