The Inishowen Development Education Network

schoolsThe overall aim is to build on the work initiated last year (2008/09) to raise awareness of development issues among transition year, second year students (where no transition programme available), in the five secondary schools, and Youthreach Centres.

The project will develop on the themes started last year, focus on raising awareness and participating in activities relating to poverty and disadvantage, health, HIV and AIDS, Education, Food and livelihood security, Sustainable development, Trade, Human rights, Peace and conflict and Capacity Building. Students will be encouraged to look at issues in their own community before exploring issues at a global level.  Guest speakers and resources will be used as appropriate, to enhance topics and activities.

As part of their networking the website is to be developed to share learning.

Countries the schools have links to are the following – Uganda, Kenya, Ghana, Guatemala and two schools this year (Crana College and Carndonagh Community School) hope to link with Vietnam.
